States rights only matter to the GOP when it lets them be racist, homophobic, or misogynistic.

States rights only matter when they are losing on an issue. They wanted a constitutional amendment preventing marriage equality. Once it became legal it was a state's rights issue. When abortion was legal it was a state's rights issue, now they want a nationwide ban. State's rights has always been a stepping stone to what they really want.

There is a long-held Republican tradition of attempting to legislate reality. See the Sharpie Effect. In this case, the pen is mightier than 100 hours of supercompute on multidimensional finite difference physics code.

u/MadRaymer 8h ago
They've been trying to legislate climate change out of reality for years too. I think in Florida the state government even banned discussing sea level rise.
Surely ignoring our problems makes them go away. That pile of dishes in my sink will spontaneously disappear any minute now.
61
u/BadahBingBadahBoom 8h ago
Same with banning funding on gun violence research.
Can't be a serious public health issue if there's no evidence of it being a serious public health issue!
aka: 'if you don't test, you don't have cases'.
37
u/MadRaymer 8h ago
Yep, and banning research gives away the game. They already know what the research will reveal. If they thought it proved their case (that more guns make people safer) then they would allow the research.
Same thing with funding climate satellites and ocean weather monitoring. If you truly believed it was all a liberal hoax, wouldn't you want the data to prove it? But they already know the data won't prove that. It's just easier to lie to the public without it.

Well they consider Trump a king and are trying to get as much done as they can through executive order. Sure some thing get blocked but they have been pretty successful. Most of this shit will be nearly impossible to fix without extreme control of congress and president by democrats. (This was planned out in project 2025).
Republicans are successfully setting the country back 100 years and will do their damndest to prevent and fixes.
→ More replies (14)196
u/mdb1023 9h ago edited 7h ago
Executive Orders barely have any teeth- all they really do is direct the lower levels of the Executive branch. And it is actually incredibly easy to fix, all that needs to happen is the next president writing an executive order that undoes the previous one(s).
Edit: I'm done responding to doomers doing their usual dooming in the comments.
260
u/Cautious_Condition82 9h ago
Many of his executive orders are destroying things, which is a lot easier than building or fixing. Damage being done and personnel being lost isn't as easy as reverse the EO and everything is back to normal.
→ More replies (33)116
u/aqualoon_ Minnesota 8h ago
Exactly, the infrastructure of these systems are being destroyed. So when the Dems finally get back into control, they won't be able to fix anything quickly which then they will get blamed for not doing anything.
60
u/Gizogin New York 8h ago
See Obama and Biden for examples. They couldn’t magically fix everything in a single Congressional term, so voters sat out the midterms and handed at least one chamber back to Republicans at the first possible opportunity.
9
u/Railroader17 8h ago
Which is why the first thing a Democratic president needs to do is decimate the GOP, so they don't have an opportunity to take back either chamber.

Its a lot harder to build something than it is to burn it to the ground. Democrats are going to have to respond to the big tax scam Bill with another one twice the size in the opposite direction to even have enough funds to fix what the trump administration is doing right now. And that's just to make it possible

More than likely to remove any form of social security and resources from autistic people and families of people with it, on the basis that the EO puts the blame onto the parents and medical community as a preventable thing.

This. Rather than seeing the government as a mechanism to lift people up, and give them the stability to build a life and therefore more wealth and security for all, Rs see government as a means to their own personal ends. Government spending should be limited unless it can directly line their pockets, such as through artificially propping up dying industries, or lucrative but largely pointless ones like military spending. Then we get more combustion engine vehicles, export crops, heavy military machinery instead of sophisticated drones, etc. since they hold stakes in those industries. It's all about short term pocket lining--the future of the country, its people, and the earth be damned. These shills don't even care about their kids' futures really.

One of the smartest people I knew in high school (class of 2007) now believes the covid vax was the mark of the beast that will turn us all into zombies in an apocalyptic event. His wife lost her job as a surgeon's assistant for refusing the vax and now they both hate the medical industry and only go to unaffiliated non-network doctors. I worked with him last year after not seeing him since high school. My desk was in earshot of his room and I heard everything that went on in there. I legit heard him talking anti-vax shit to clients on the phone and the clients were totally cool with it!

I'd guess this is Barron-related.
It's absurd in all cases, of course. Autistic people existed before modern medicine. We didn't have a word for it, but they were there, doing their thing, a long time before vaccines existed or even the English language. It isn't some plague that needs to be stamped out.

They had words for it. They weren't good words and were the product of misunderstanding what it was.
Here, an RFK Jr. quote with his disgusting dogwhistles intact:
"Autism destroys families, and more importantly, it destroys our greatest resource, which is our children. These are children who should not be suffering like this," he said. “These are kids who will never pay taxes. They'll never hold a job. They'll never play baseball. They'll never write a poem. They'll never go out on a date. Many of them will never use a toilet unassisted."

All speculation of course, but I think growing up with his mother rather than his father, to the point he supposedly had a bit of a Slovenian accent, helped him be less under his control. Don Jr and Eric grew up fighting for their parents' love. Barron grew up seeing his mother loathe his father.

Baron also allegedly grew up with a fondness for torturing animals. Little fucker is a serial killer in training, so the apple didn't fall far from the rapist tree.

As i understand it Barron is "on the spectrum"... and as the Trump genes are perfect it must be the fault of something or someone else.

Also, what these morons don't understand is the evidence cuts both ways: unvaccinated kids still get autism, and at the same rate as vaccinated children.

The reason is not because they believe it- the reason is always about money or power. When they pushed the Tylenol nonsense, it tanked Tylenol stock and allowed MAGA cronies to buy the company at a discounted price. This time it’s probably about power - most autistic people have high morals and fully understand the shit they are pulling - that and the percentage of high functioning autistics in science and medical positions is extremely high compared to the national average so fucking this all up hurts a lot of people, mostly logical smart folks with trickle down problems for the general public

You're overthinking Trump. He's doing it because he thinks it's an actual problem and he can get a reputation as someone who saved America from autism.
If this was coming from Russ Vought? Yes, 100%. Miller, maybe. RFKJr, his eugenics.
But Trump's not that complicated.

Finally we have someone telling the truth about vaccines despite all the evidence to the contrary. Vaccines have a 100% death rate if you wait long enough. /S

"The rules were that you weren’t going to fact check." "If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do." -- J.D. Vance, the man conservatives voted into the second-highest office in America
The very founder of modern Western conservatism insist[ed] with brutal frankness that “illusions” and “prejudices” are socially necessary, today's conservatives have coined the term "alternative facts", and studies show that [search for] truth and intelligence is inversely correlated with conservative ideology.
- Belief in Fake News is Associated with Delusionality, Dogmatism, Religious Fundamentalism, and Reduced Analytic Thinking
- Religion and Fake News: Faith-Based Alternative Information Ecosystems in the US and Europe (full article)
- Intelligence is correlated with a range of left-wing and liberal political beliefs. (full article)
- Results confirm that conservatives have lower sensitivity than liberals, performing worse at distinguishing truths and falsehoods
- Conservatives are less truth-discerning than liberals, but also less affected by the congruence of news.
- Across five operationalizations of impaired deliberative thought, hierarchy endorsement increased and egalitarianism receded.
- Conservatism and cognitive ability are negatively correlated.

Remember when they called Obama the Imperial President because he issued about 150 executive orders per term?
This would be Trump's 274th executive order and we're not even halfway done.

The fun thing about this is they're basically saying they'd rather your kid be dead than have autism. Which is WILD.

I have 2 kids with autism.
My youngest with lv 3, non-verbal, definitely always had it from birth. Not vaccine related.
Theres plenty of family history for it to be genetic.
Im tired of the wild goose chase slowing down reasurch

The damage that Andrew Wakefield and Hugh Fudenburg have done to public health cannot be overstated.
It is so absolutely infuriating that this conspiracy still persists when it’s borne of a disgraced FORMER doctor who used concerned parents as a cudgel to lie, grift, and enrich himself.
The anti vaxers who whine about trusting doctors and science because they might be swayed by financial incentives have mindlessly propagated a dangerous lie made by a person who is the quintessential example of what they’re supposedly wary of.
It’s so. Fucking. Stupid.

Pharmacist here. The damage these misinformation regards (yes, WSB definition lol) are doing to the country is borderline unbelievable. The antiscience Christian national crunchy "I know more than any scientist or doctor because I say so" crowd is pulling us back into the dark ages. It's at the point now that people are questioning even Vitamin K shots for babies which has lead to ACTUAL DEATHS OF NEWBORNS(I've unfortunately already seen one personally). What's next? An anti-needle group?
I don't know the way out from here. Shit like this gives the sense of legitimacy to the insane. I see it more and more where lay people that probably know better will still question or say things like "well, I wonder if there is something to that? Maybe I better hold off for now." all because they saw something crazy on FB, TikTok or Insta.
I personally think it will take financial forfeiture for the social media companies allowing this to to infest their platforms as well as criminal liability for those giving the bad advice when things go poorly.

As a pediatrician, I’m tired. I wish nothing but the worst for these poor excuses for human beings. I’m not afraid to tell my patients’ families that the current administration is wrong about all of this and remind them that no one making these claims has any relevant education on the matter. I correctly call it out as propaganda and routinely recount the story of Wakefield’s fraudulent study and inform them of all the subsequent studies done over the past few decades that show lack of correlation between vaccines and autism. I also advise parents not trust anything about vaccines on a US government run website right now. I instead point them towards the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Family Physicians, Public Health Agency of Canada, Australian Dept of Health, and the NHS. I usually win parents over this way, but if they become offended that I “brought politics into it,” they can go elsewhere. I won’t capitulate to this shit.

I want to hear him talk about Operation Warp Speed now.
"Since you were in charge of Operation Warp Speed, which brought the COVID vaccine to everyone, can it be said that you directed them to create a dangerous vaccine to be used on Americans that you personally championed at the time?"
"No. I didn't do that. Who are you with? That's fake news. Your newspaper is failing. All lies."
"It saved millions of lives, though."
"Of course that was me. They said it couldn't be done. They said, 'but you are the only one who can make this happen.' So I did. Only I could do something that great."

Before mass leaders seize the power to fit reality to their lies, their propaganda is marked by its extreme contempt for facts as such, for in their opinion fact depends entirely on the power of the man who can fabricate it.

I'd really like some limitations on what the WH is allowed to draft in terms of executive orders. They're supposed to be used for further interpretation/implementation of existing laws, and this mf is using them to try and make bullshit into facts.

There's no proven link between vaccinations and autism, but I'm pretty sure you could make a case for a link between anti-vaxxers and preventable disease outbreaks.

It's litterally everything you'd do to your enemy. Undermine their economy, their healthcare, education, infrastructure, exhaust their resources and methods of protection.
It's wild to watch play out in real time while people critique the method and not simply arrest the criminal.
It's a flaw in democracy and humans in general.. some (46%) have no moral direction and are willing to do anything to win. The other half appreciates the boundaries and they always get wiped out by their enemies’ willingness to do anything to win.

Autism researcher here, for my doctorate and in industry. Focused in embryological brain development.
Best evidence for autism’s origins we have to date is usually funded by the Simon’s Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI). They’ve shown that autism is a prenatal disease of cortical malformation or due to altered electrical properties in neurons that occur during fetal development in the pregnant mom.
Since autism is diagnosed behaviorally, parents usually only encounter autism -like symptoms when the kid is older,~2 yrs old. However, MRI in the womb and post mortem fetal brain dissections show that the disease is already underway by the second trimester, when the brain is becoming vastly more complex and folded. This means that the disease already has taken root by the time children are born, let alone are obtaining vaccines. It’s just a very unfortunate overlap of vaccine timing and the emergence of when the autism symptoms arise.
Additionally, there is an insane bias for autism in males vs females. Something like 2:1, because boys brains develop differently even before 3 yrs old and manifest the cortical malformations more strongly. All of this does not support vaccines as a cause, as girls and boys are equally vaccinated. No real scientist thinks it’s vaccines. Could be something we provide in the environment they crossed the placenta from mom to the developing fetus, or it could be due to humans vastly expanded brain. But the vaccine myth never really agreed with the neurodevelopmental timeline or observations in children vs the fetus.
